The area at the Nickerie district in the north west of Suriname is developing. Nickerie is the largest producer of rice in the country, but sugar cane and 'bacoven'(bananas) are also grown in this area. The agricultural sector is a large one and therefore the most important source of income.
Nieuw Nickerie (Njoentoen) is, as the largest city within the Nickerie distrist and second largest city of Suriname, the centre of this envoriment. Several stores and banks from Paramaribo have situated a chain store at this location. And so will Kuldipsingh Readymix N.V.
